(Columbus, OH) -- State officials say they are preparing to receive over 850 refugees from Afghanistan in the first group from the federal government's resettlement program.

Governor DeWine said yesterday that eight resettlement agencies in Central and Northeast Ohio would work to accommodate the refugees. Columbus is expected to host 345 refugees, with Cleveland receiving 285, Akron getting 150, Cincinnati hosting 50, and Toledo helping with 25 escapees.

The United States of Al, a comedy series that debuted in 2020 on CBS, is centered around an Afghan interpreter living with a host family in Columbus.
